Shohei Ohtani's bases-clearing extra-base hit helps Dodgers score 10 runs in one inning, cruising past Angels in highway preseason game.

MLB spring training continues, with the reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers visiting the Los Angeles Angels today. In the top of the third inning, they sent 14 batters to the plate, drew 7 walks, and capitalized on Shohei Ohtani's timely bases-clearing extra-base hit to score 10 runs in the frame, ultimately winning easily 13-5.

In the bottom of the second inning, Angels power hitter Jorge Soler seized on a center-cut fastball from Tyler Glasnow, launching a solo home run to left-center field to give the Angels an early lead. Angels starter George Klassen struck out four batters over the first two innings, stifling the Dodgers lineup.

However, the Dodgers lineup responded swiftly in the top of the third inning. Teoscar Hernández tied the game with a home run, followed by Andy Pages, Shohei Ohtani, and Kyle Tucker drawing consecutive walks to load the bases. Mookie Betts patiently worked another walk to force in the go-ahead run, also knocking Klassen out of the game.

Left-hander Samy Natera Jr. entered to try to contain Freddie Freeman with a lefty matchup, but his control remained shaky, and Freeman walked to bring in another run. After Will Smith struck out, the discerning Max Muncy drew another walk to push in the fourth run. Hernández then pierced the infield defense, driving in two runs to make it 6-1, forcing the Angels to change pitchers again.

The Dodgers' offensive surge continued. Pages hit the first pitch through an infield gap for the seventh run, and Alex Freeland drew a walk while behind in the count, loading the bases once more. Shohei Ohtani, batting for the second time in the inning, delivered a deep bases-clearing double, giving the Dodgers 10 runs in the inning and a 10-1 lead. Interestingly, this half-inning lasted from dawn until dusk locally.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Mike Trout singled, Nolan Schanuel walked, putting runners on first and second. Glasnow then struck out three consecutive batters to escape the threat.

In the top of the sixth inning, Smith added another run with a timely single. In the bottom of the sixth, Tanner Scott's control faltered; after Trout singled and Schanuel walked, Soler blasted a three-run homer. Scott threw 19 pitches and secured only one out before exiting, raising his spring training ERA to 4.70. Ben Casparius, who relieved him, walked Logan O'Hoppe to load the bases but got Oswald Peraza to ground out weakly, allowing the Angels to narrow the gap to 5-11.

In the top of the seventh inning, James Tibbs III hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 12-5. Veteran Blake Treinen, struggling in spring training, took the mound in the bottom of the seventh, delivering three strikeouts with just one walk and one single, allowing no runs.

In the top of the eighth inning, Santiago Espinal hit his fifth spring training double, and Emil Morales drove a ball through the middle of the infield to bring in the 13th run. The Angels failed to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, ending the game with a 5-13 loss.
