Dodgers Aim for Three-Peat in World Series, Alcantara Named Top Trade Target

Following their consecutive World Series championships, the Los Angeles Dodgers are aggressively laying the groundwork for an unprecedented third straight title. Although the team boasts an outstanding record and leads the league in several pitching categories, the rash of injuries to their starting rotation means the Dodgers' management will inevitably look to the trade market for ready-made talent. Among the potential targets, former National League Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins has been singled out as the most appealing option for Los Angeles.

With deep financial resources and proactive moves, the Dodgers continue to demonstrate their ambition to build a dynasty. Currently sitting at 42 wins, second best in the majors, they combine roster depth with elite talent. In terms of pitching, the Dodgers lead the league with a 3.17 team ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and a .208 opponent batting average. However, historically only the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees have completed a three-peat. If the Dodgers want to lift the World Series trophy again, they cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

The Dodgers currently boast a star-studded starting rotation, including the outstanding Shohei Ohtani, along with Tyler Glasnow, Emmet Sheehan, Justin Wrobleski, Roki Sasaki, Gavin Stone, and Blake Snell. However, Glasnow, Snell, and Stone are all on the 60-day injured list. Given that the team employs a six-man rotation to maximize Ohtani's two-way contributions and protect pitchers' health, and with elite closer Edwin Díaz also dealing with elbow issues, the pitching staff clearly needs reinforcement.

To fill the gap, sports media outlet *ClutchPoints* believes Marlins ace Alcantara is the perfect solution for the Dodgers. He won the National League Cy Young Award in 2022, leading the NL in WAR (8.0), innings pitched (228.2), and complete games (six). Although he underwent Tommy John surgery the following year and missed the entire 2024 season, his return to the mound was initially shaky but has since shown strong signs of recovery.

Despite trade rumors, the Marlins have chosen to keep their ace, and Alcantara has proven his worth with solid performance. He currently leads the majors in innings pitched (89.1) and shutouts (one), posting a 4.33 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. His contract includes only a $21 million team option for next season. If he can regain his Cy Young form, the Dodgers would acquire another superstar, making this a potentially high-reward trade move.
