The rehabilitation of Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers' two-way superstar, was temporarily suspended because of left knee discomfort and right biceps tightness. However, per Dodgers beat writer Sonja Chen, positive developments have been reported.
After Ohtani's last bullpen session on July 22 (U.S. time), he still felt discomfort when his stride foot landed, leading to a halt in all rehabilitation plans. A scheduled bullpen session on July 25 was also canceled. Manager Dave Roberts stated at the time that Ohtani must be 100% certain his body is ready for training, and only with the team's approval would he proceed.
Now, according to Sonja Chen, before today's game, Ohtani first did weighted ball training and then came to the field for catch play at about 90 feet (27 meters). This is the first progress since his rehabilitation on July 22. Chen is quite optimistic about Ohtani's return. She mentioned that Ohtani can currently play catch, and the next steps are to increase distance, then enter bullpen sessions, followed by live batting practice, gradually returning to game shape. Ohtani hopes to return to the mound sometime in early to mid-September.
