Dodgers lose 2-4 to Diamondbacks in season series: What does this mean for the NL West race?

If there is any consolation for the Los Angeles Dodgers after losing the series in Phoenix with a 2-4 defeat today, it might be that they no longer have any games remaining against the Arizona Diamondbacks in their regular season schedule.

Of course, that is assuming these two NL West teams do not meet in the playoffs.

After snapping their season-long seven-game losing streak yesterday, the Dodgers failed to start a winning streak. In today's series finale, starting pitcher Justin Wrobleski's another inconsistent performance put them in an early hole, while the Diamondbacks' pitching staff continued to suppress the Dodgers' lineup.

The Dodgers have lost eight of their past nine games and also lost the regular-season head-to-head record against the Diamondbacks, who are currently second in the NL West. Although the Dodgers still hold a comfortable 7.5-game lead, just a month ago they had a season-high 14-game lead. Can the Diamondbacks challenge for the division title in the final stretch?

The Dodgers faced a similar situation last year when the San Diego Padres briefly knocked them off the top of the division twice in August 2025. The Dodgers then rebounded strongly, winning the NL West for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons and eventually successfully defending their World Series championship. But they certainly faced significant pressure during that year's final stretch.
