This time, Durant found himself isolated and unsupported.

In their 31st regular-season meeting, James prevailed over Durant. Though the two stars are now 78 years old combined, they continue to draw most of the attention on the floor, given that their clashes are truly becoming fewer each time.

The contest was fiercely fought, with each team's largest lead capped at 10 points, leading to a nail-biting second half. Then, as expected, the Rockets' offense collapsed once more. After experimenting with various defensive strategies against Durant in the first half, the Lakers ultimately resorted to their classic and most effective approach: applying double-teams.

With under two minutes remaining, the Lakers led 91-90 by a single point, before unleashing a 9-0 run to seal the victory. At that point, Durant finally scored his first basket of the second half, highlighting a stark contrast between the Rockets' offensive performance in the first and second halves.

Durant scored 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the first half, finishing with 18 points on 8-of-16 for the entire game—his only second-half contribution being a late, inconsequential layup. From the moment Durant received the ball, the Lakers deployed double-teams, even extending pressure near the midcourt, forcing him to pass and making other Rockets players solve the offensive challenges.

The Rockets theoretically had personnel capable of stepping up; for instance, Jalen Green was highly efficient in the first half, scoring 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, but unfortunately cooled off in the second half. Sheppard also struggled, shooting 1-for-6 from three-point range and failing to provide outside scoring support.

It must be acknowledged that Sengun's importance becomes evident in such situations; at least when Durant is double-teamed, Sengun serves as a reliable outlet. He can act as a passing hub to distribute the ball to appropriate teammates or take on the ball himself to create advantageous mismatches.

A competent relief option is crucial for breaking double-teams. The Lakers themselves are a team unfazed by trapping defenses, as their three core players can all handle the ball. The cost of double-teaming Luka Doncic is substantial; defensive teams typically only apply traps when he operates in the low post, rarely committing early at high positions.

In the fourth quarter, after Durant was trapped, many of the resulting opportunities fell to Eason, who then missed all three of his attempts, performing poorly during that stretch. Despite Eason's struggles, Coach Udoka kept him in the starting lineup.

The Rockets managed only 12 points in the final quarter, while the Lakers, having invested heavily in defense, scored just 17 themselves. Yet in a gritty battle, a 5-point advantage in one quarter proved enough to secure the win. The Rockets' offense was so crude that they failed to convert even after securing four offensive rebounds in a single possession.

The Rockets committed 22 turnovers in the game, ranking eighth in the league for average turnovers this season—the highest among all top-eight teams in both conferences. Poor ball-handling and excessive turnovers render their offensive execution particularly ugly. Certainly, Coach Udoka bears undeniable responsibility for this.

Late in the game, during a sideline inbound play, Udoka designed a straightforward tactic involving Capela setting a screen for Durant to receive the ball. James anticipated this move early, deliberately leaving some space, then intercepted the pass as it went to Capela, resulting in a rushed inbound and a turnover that effectively ended the contest.

Durant committed six turnovers under constant double-teams in the second half, clearly struggling against such intense pressure. Yet Udoka failed to devise any effective measures to alleviate Durant's burden, highlighting coaching inadequacy. Additionally, Durant logged over 37 minutes of play today.

The Rockets and Lakers will face off again in two days. The Lakers' strategy is transparent: they need not double-team Durant throughout the entire game; simply disrupting the Rockets' offense during critical moments will secure a significant advantage. It remains to see what solutions Udoka can formulate within two days.

Following today's victory, James' regular-season record against Durant stands at 20 wins and 11 losses, while playoff results are 5 wins and 9 losses. The first encounter between these two legends dates back to 2007, when there was no Thunder team yet, and Durant wore a Seattle SuperSonics jersey.

Upon learning today that the Seattle SuperSonics might return, I realized just how extensive the rivalry between James and Durant has been. The upcoming matchup in two days could indeed mark the final chapter of James versus Durant battles; time will pause as the game concludes, drawing a close to this legendary saga.
