NBA Injury Updates: Curry to Participate in 5v5 Practice Tomorrow; Trae Young Injured Again, Possibly Season-Ending

On March 22 Beijing time, injury updates for several players emerged overnight, including Curry and Trae Young. Details are as follows —

The Warriors officially stated that Stephen Curry, who has missed 20 consecutive games due to right knee patellofemoral pain syndrome/bone bruise, underwent a re-examination today. The results showed Curry's recovery is progressing well. He has intensified his on-court individual training and will gradually join contact drills and team practices over the coming days. After the team returns home next week, he will undergo another re-examination.

Coach Kerr revealed that Curry will participate in an intra-team 5v5 practice tomorrow morning in Atlanta. This marks the most significant step yet in his return process.

Curry's last appearance was on January 31 against the Detroit Pistons. This season, he leads the team with an average of 27.2 points per game.

Moses Moody, who sprained his right wrist in the March 3 game against the Los Angeles Clippers and has missed nine consecutive games, also underwent a re-examination today. The results showed Moody's recovery is progressing well. He has intensified on-court training (such as shooting drills) and will gradually join contact drills over the coming days. He will undergo another re-examination on Wednesday.

The Wizards officially announced that Young suffered a right quadriceps contusion, re-injuring it during the third quarter of Monday's game against the Golden State Warriors. Team reporter Robbins disclosed that imaging due to persistent back pain also confirmed symptoms of lower back irritation. The Wizards added that both injuries are currently being treated conservatively, with no surgery required at this stage. US media reported that considering the Wizards' tanking strategy and the limited remaining regular season time, Trae Young is essentially out for the season.

In the over two months since joining the Wizards, he has only played 5 games, averaging 20.8 minutes per game, contributing 15.2 points and 6.2 assists. Young's contract includes a player option worth $49 million for next season. If Young renews his contract with the Wizards in the coming months, he would need to decline exercising this option and replace it with a new contract starting from the 2026-27 season. If both parties agree, it could be extended for up to three additional years beyond the current contract. If Young exercises the player option in June, he would become eligible for a contract extension during the offseason, with the new contract starting from the 2027-28 season, allowing for up to four additional years beyond the option year.

Denver Nuggets forward Peyton Watson, who has been sidelined for over six weeks due to a right leg hamstring strain, is expected to return and be available for Monday's game against Portland.

Watson injured himself during the Nuggets' double-overtime loss to New York on February 5. Before the injury, he was experiencing a breakout fourth season with the Nuggets. This season, he has played 49 games, starting 39 (averaging 30.7 minutes). The 23-year-old forward averages 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 49.6% from the field, 41.7% from three-point range, and 72.7% from free throws. Currently, the Nuggets stand at 43 wins and 28 losses, ranking fifth in the Western Conference.
