Or is it that the Thunder truly excel at developing high draft picks? Joining them brings a surge of vitality?

Before this year's trade deadline, the Thunder sent out one first-round pick plus three second-round picks to acquire McCain from Philadelphia.

This new addition has played 20 games in Oklahoma City, all as a substitute, averaging 19.6 minutes per game with 12.3 points and 2.3 rebounds, hitting 2.4 three-pointers per game at an impressive 43.9% shooting rate.During his time with Philadelphia this season, he averaged 16.8 minutes per game, contributing 6.6 points, 2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, making 1.2 three-pointers per game at a 37.8% shooting rate.

In fact, McCain was already a highly capable player. As the 16th overall pick in the 2024 draft, he showed outstanding performance in his rookie season, averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in the 24-25 season with shooting percentages of 46% and 38.3%. Unfortunately, he suffered a lateral meniscus tear after only 23 games; otherwise, he might have been more likely than Spurs star Castle to win the 2025 Rookie of the Year award.

Overall, at present, the Thunder's trade for McCain is clearly a huge win, significantly strengthening the team's second-unit offensive firepower (this season, their bench scoring averages 41 points per game, ranking tenth in the league), providing more confidence on their path to defending the championship.

So far, the Thunder, with a record of 57 wins and 15 losses, continue to lead both the Western Conference and the entire league, while their main competitor, the Spurs, currently trail them by three wins.

Statistics show that the Thunder is one of the best teams in the NBA in terms of balanced offense and defense: averaging 118.7 points per game (5th in the league), allowing 107.5 points (2nd), offensive efficiency 117.1 (7th), defensive efficiency 106.0 (1st), true shooting percentage 59.8% (4th), points from turnovers 22.3 (1st), and opponent field goal percentage limited to 43.4% (1st).

However, it must be noted that the super young Spurs have established a psychological advantage by dominating the Thunder 4-1 in this season's regular series. If these two teams meet in the playoffs, who will emerge victorious remains to be seen.
