On March 27 Beijing time, according to Finnish media YLE, WB Panthers forward Nanti Ruusilahti scored 103 points in a single game in the Finnish U19 basketball league, setting the highest single-game scoring record in Finnish basketball history.

In this match, the Panthers defeated Nokia BC by a huge margin of 186-77. Ruusilahti discussed after the game how this hundred-point feat was achieved. He made 39 out of 55 two-point shots, 3 out of 4 three-point shots, and 16 out of 23 free throws. In this phenomenal performance, he also contributed 8 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 assists.
“The team had many assists and excellent teamwork. I was in a hot shooting streak, the ball went in no matter how I shot, and that’s how the 103 points came. You never expect shooting to be so smooth. After I scored 23 consecutive points, I felt there was a chance to chase a very high score. When I reached 68 points at halftime, we decided to aim for 100 points.”

Ruusilahti publicly stated that his dream is to reach the NBA. However, the path to the NBA might start from NCAA. This 2027-class player stands 2.01 meters tall, plays as a forward/guard swingman, and has already received invitations from multiple NCAA Division I teams, including the University of South Carolina and Drake University. As he is about to qualify for college or professional league participation, he also talked about his future plans.
“We haven’t finalized the destination yet. We’ll see if there are new offers and then decide which place suits me best.”
We often see hidden talents around the world making stunning breakthroughs with highlight clips, but not everyone can smoothly enter college leagues, let alone step onto the NBA court. Ruusilahti might be a truly promising prospect, like Barcelona’s Mohamed Dabone, or Olivier Rioux who eventually entered NCAA Division I Florida University. However, many players are just flashes in the pan, attracting brief buzz with one spectacular performance.
Whether Ruusilahti can ultimately stand on the world basketball’s highest stage alongside Lauri Markkanen and promising rookie Murinen remains to be seen. Before this game, this Finnish forward seemed to have little fame even domestically, so what practical development this sudden popularity can bring is also worth watching.
