Nowitzki believes: No team dares to face the Lakers in the playoffs.

Former NBA player Dirk Nowitzki talked about the Lakers on a show today, expressing that no team is willing to meet the Lakers in the playoffs.

Nowitzki remarked, "Luka's recent play has been phenomenal; he's on fire, averaging close to 40 points. His step-back works perfectly. When he's unlocked, other teams must be cautious—he's practically impossible to contain."

Nowitzki issued a warning to other teams regarding the Lakers in the playoffs:“Is this really the opponent you want to face in the playoffs—a team with three players who can dictate the game and take over in clutch moments?”

Speaking about his younger counterpart Luka Dončić, Nowitzki said, "I'm genuinely happy for him now. I understand everything he's going through, and I'm pleased he's handling it so well. He's like a little brother to me; I watched him enter the league, and I sincerely hope he wins a championship."

Nowitzki has a good relationship with Dončić and has attended multiple Lakers games in person. He was also present at this season's opening game to support his younger counterpart Dončić, thereby missing the debut of top pick Flagg with the Mavericks.

Nowitzki and Dončić shared the 2018-19 season together on the Mavericks. That was Dončić's rookie season and Nowitzki's final season in his career. On February 1, 2025, the Mavericks traded Dončić to the Lakers. When the trade occurred, Nowitzki was vacationing in Maldives.

Nowitzki recalled, "I was sitting in my room packing when my phone suddenly got flooded with calls and messages from all over the world. I was so shocked that I put everything aside. I sat in the room for an hour, constantly scrolling through my phone, trying to confirm if it was real."

Nowitzki immediately texted Dončić, who initially didn't reply: "He might have been overwhelmed, dealing with a lot of things." A day later, Dončić finally responded, and Nowitzki noted, "I think he was emotionally stirred; he completely didn't expect this to happen."

To show support, Nowitzki flew specifically to Los Angeles to watch Dončić's debut with the Lakers live. "I just wanted him to know that even though he's moved elsewhere, our friendship remains, and I still support him and his family."

Nowitzki commented on supporting Dončić: "I will never be a Lakers fan, but I will always support Dončić."
