European top clubs reportedly recruiting Westbrook! No takers in NBA market: Is he really leaving the US to play?

According to European media reports on July 28, Russell Westbrook has received recruitment interest from Greek club Panathinaikos and Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv. With no job likely in the NBA, is Westbrook really going to Europe to play?

Previously, renowned reporter Sidery reported that Westbrook is virtually unwanted in the NBA free agent market. He is likely to remain unsigned by the start of the 2026-27 season. After moving through seven teams in the past nine years, the Hall of Fame-bound star's NBA career may be nearing its end.

European journalist Donatas Urbonas has strongly recommended Westbrook to play in Europe. "If he lets go of the obsession to return to the NBA, I sincerely suggest he experience the European league," Urbonas wrote. "He can feel the purest love for basketball: world-class home atmospheres, each arena with its own story and fervor. Every possession matters, every game carries heavy significance. He can once again become the absolute core of a team, leading them to chase prestigious honors. On this court, the line between championships and regrets is often just a few wins or losses."

Taking charge of a team in such an environment would be a perfect final chapter for a superstar's career.
