After missing out on James, the Heat have turned their attention to Klay Thompson. The Mavericks are reportedly set to discuss a buyout with Thompson. If he reaches a buyout agreement with Dallas, the Heat stand a strong chance of acquiring him. Thompson's goal is to compete for a championship, and compared to other teams, joining the Heat offers him a better opportunity to fulfill that ambition.

If the Heat manage to land Thompson—a historic 3-and-D player—their roster would become more complete for the upcoming season. Moreover, Thompson is a perfect fit for Giannis Antetokounmpo. As everyone knows, Giannis is an exceptional driver, and when he attacks the basket, he often draws multiple defenders, causing perimeter players to leave their assignments to help. If the Heat have an elite shooter on the outside, that shooter will get plenty of open looks.

Although Thompson's abilities have declined in recent years, it's undeniable that he remains highly reliable when given open shots. The main reason for his decline is his reduced effectiveness on contested shots. If he gets a few open opportunities in a game, he can still knock down several three-pointers. The ability to hit open shots does not significantly deteriorate with age.

The Heat are well worth watching next season. Their defensive prowess is outstanding, and defense sets the floor for any team. In the frontcourt, they have Giannis, Bam Adebayo, and Andrew Wiggins—all elite defenders. When they showcase their defensive skills, opposing players will face significant challenges. Of course, the Heat still need a point guard, and they will likely continue to search for one. Overall, the Heat remain a team that cannot be underestimated.
