3-year, $52.2 million! Mavericks officially announce extension with Marshall: He will switch to jersey No. 3 for the new season

On August 3, Beijing time, the Mavericks made it official: they have inked forward Naji Marshall to a multi-year contract extension. Shams reported the deal is worth $52.2 million over three years, fully guaranteed without any options. The 28-year-old will don No. 3 instead of No. 13 beginning in the 2026-27 season.

Marshall stands 2.03 meters tall. In the 2025-26 season, he played 74 games for the Mavericks (47 starts, both career highs), averaging 29.5 minutes per game (career high) and posting career-best numbers: 15.2 points (shooting 51.0%, career high), 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists (career high), and 1.1 steals (career high). He also recorded six 30-point games last season, another personal best.

Mavericks president Masai Ujiri said: "Naji's approach to the game day in and day out has earned him this opportunity. He is full of spirit and can help the team win in multiple dimensions. His all-around skills, tough playing style, and mentality of embracing any challenge make him a vital part of our team-building blueprint."

In two seasons with the Mavericks, Marshall appeared in a total of 143 games (78 starts), averaging 14.3 points (shooting 50.9% from the field, 77.8% from the free throw line), 4.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.1 steals in 28.7 minutes per game. Before joining the Mavericks, he never scored 30 points in a single game during his first four seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans. Since arriving in Dallas, he has achieved 30-point games eight times.

Throughout his career, Marshall has played for the Pelicans and the Mavericks, totaling 373 games (114 starts), averaging 23.0 minutes, 10.1 points (shooting 47.1% from the field, 77.7% from the line), 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 0.8 steals per game.

Marshall went undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft. He previously played four seasons for the Pelicans (2020–2024) and officially signed with the Mavericks on July 6, 2024.

Marshall played college basketball at Xavier University for three seasons: he was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team in 2017-18, the All-Big East Second Team in 2018-19, and the All-Big East First Team in 2019-20.
