G League's Rip City Remix changes coach! Magic assistant Bahrur takes over: Will Yang Hansen be given more playing time in the new season?

On August 4, Beijing time, according to HoopsHype reporter Michael Scotto, the Portland Trail Blazers officially appointed Amir Bahrur as the head coach of their G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix.

Over the past two seasons, Bahrur served as an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic under head coach Jamahl Mosley. He joined the Magic in 2022 and initially spent two seasons as the team's lead video analyst. During the 2021-22 season, Bahrur worked as an assistant coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets.

Bahrur is the fourth head coach in the four-year history of the Rip City Remix. He will replace Jonah Herscu, who left the Trail Blazers organization to join the Chicago Bulls as an assistant coach on Split's new coaching staff. Previously, Herscu gained support from many Chinese fans for appreciating and giving playing time to Yang Hansen on the Remix. In the new season, the Trail Blazers' frontcourt is crowded, so Hansen may continue to spend significant time developing with the Remix. Scotto also reported that the Trail Blazers hired James Brocato as the Director of Basketball Innovation. Brocato moved to Portland from the Dallas Mavericks, where he had served as the Director of Basketball Data Analytics since 2015. According to his LinkedIn profile, he joined the Mavericks in 2013, working as a data analytics specialist, then a consultant, before taking over the data analytics department.

The previous head of this position was Alexander Powell, who served for two seasons and left in April this year to become the Executive Director of the Duke University basketball program.
