Are the Warriors finally going to make a signing? Two potential minimum-salary targets have been revealed: possibly signing veteran Kelly Olynyk.

As of August 5th Beijing time, after re-signing several players, the Warriors are still the only team in the league without any free agent acquisitions (excluding draft picks) this offseason. The Warriors currently have 13 players on their standard roster, leaving two open spots. It is anticipated that they will use one of those spots to sign a player.

According to reporter Fischer, the Warriors' two main potential targets are Kelly Olynyk and Georges Niang. Olynyk largely fell out of the rotation with the Spurs last season, appearing in only 42 games and averaging 8.6 minutes per game. Niang started last season with the Jazz and was traded to the Grizzlies at the deadline, but he did not play for either team; his last NBA action came during the 2024-2025 season with the Hawks.

Additionally, media reports have also mentioned DeMar DeRozan as a potential option. The Warriors need a player who can relieve offensive pressure when Stephen Curry is off the floor, and DeRozan is at least a reliable scorer. However, it remains uncertain whether he would be willing to accept a veteran minimum contract this offseason; ultimately, it depends on the market offers he receives as the offseason progresses. Other fringe role players could also fit the Warriors, such as Maxi Kleber or Trendon Watford (who has expressed interest in playing in Spain this offseason). But regardless of which type of player they pursue, they should aim to address the team's frontcourt shortcomings.

After all, on the frontcourt, the absences of Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody will pose a tricky challenge for the team for a significant portion of the regular season. The Warriors currently have only Draymond Green, Lindy Waters, Santos, and two-way player Lyons available to play the two forward positions.
