A well-known American commentator: LeBron is the most influential player in history, while Jordan is a sneaker salesman.

Renowned sports commentator Colin Cowherd stated that LeBron is the most influential player in history, while Jordan is the best sneaker salesman.

During his podcast, Colin Cowherd wasted no time in delivering his pointed opinions. He's had a lot to say about LeBron and Jordan over the years, and now he's starting again.

"LeBron made his decision, and two days later, the league announced that the 76ers would get the most nationally televised games. This was after the Knicks had just won the championship and Wembanyama was set to become the face of the league. Yet the 41-year-old LeBron will have more TV appearances than anyone. Fanatics reported that LeBron's jersey sales in the first two days after joining a new team were the highest ever in any sport, including Shohei Ohtani joining the Dodgers—another international superstar."

"So you can keep hating on LeBron, but to me this shows two things. First, you forget how important branding is. Branding matters. And I have to say this: LeBron James is the most influential player in NBA history. Jordan is the best sneaker salesman. LeBron is the most influential for this reason: we've never seen so much hate, and we've never had so many platforms."

"Ordinary citizens have never had the ability to directly send their opinions to the people they criticize. It could be Drake, it could be LeBron, it could be Tom Hanks, or it could be a politician. You can send things directly to them."

"Yet LeBron has been a trendsetter for 24 consecutive years. Last year, he ranked first in social media views with over 3 billion. He crushed Edwards, Alexander, Wembanyama, Jokic—he crushed them all."

The NBA announced back in April that LeBron led the 2025-26 season with 2.85 billion social media views. Wembanyama was second with 2.43 billion, and Doncic was third with 2.11 billion. No one else reached the 2 billion mark.

LeBron is 41 years old but remains the biggest draw in the NBA. Colin Cowherd mentioned here that NBA commissioner Adam Silver urged him to make a free agent decision quickly so the league could set the 2026-27 schedule. LeBron took a long time to decide his next team, finally announcing on July 24 that he would sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Just days later, Front Office Sports reported that the 76ers are expected to get 34 nationally televised games, the maximum allowed under the NBA's current broadcast deal. They had only 14 last season.

The 76ers officially announced signing LeBron on July 27, and two days later, Fanatics shared that his jersey sales in the 48 hours after the announcement were the highest ever for any player. The previous record was held by Shohei Ohtani. LeBron's level of attention continues to exceed any other NBA player, and arguably any player in any major U.S. professional sports league.

Colin Cowherd firmly believes LeBron is the most influential player in NBA history, and the success of the Jordan brand—which generated $7 billion in revenue in fiscal 2024—does nothing to change his mind. The 62-year-old commentator also took a subtle jab at Jordan's first retirement in 1993.

He said Jordan felt overwhelmed after nine seasons and went to play baseball. Meanwhile, LeBron is about to enter his 24th season, maintaining high intensity and elite performance for so many years. LeBron did all this in an era of much greater scrutiny, and he praised LeBron for it, saying LeBron is truly one of a kind.

Another well-known commentator, Nick Wright, said of LeBron today: "I'm not saying he loves basketball more than anyone in history. I'm saying that when it comes to loving basketball, no one can surpass him."

Really, you commentators and reporters, stop hyping LeBron so much, or I won't be able to keep up with liking all your posts.
