Suns announce three-year, $73 million extension for Dillon Brooks; GM credits him as key to last season's success

The Phoenix Suns revealed on August 9 (Beijing time) that they have agreed to a multi-year extension with swingman Dillon Brooks. Brooks, who boasts nine seasons of NBA experience, enjoyed a career-best campaign in 2025‑26 with the Suns. It was previously reported that the contract is for three years and $73 million.

In his debut season with the Suns, Brooks appeared in 56 games, averaging a career-high 20.2 points on 43.5% shooting, along with 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 steal. On January 29, during a victory over the Detroit Pistons, he tallied a career-best 40 points and a season-high 8 rebounds.

During the playoffs, Brooks averaged 26.0 points on 45.9% shooting, including 3.5 three-pointers per game at a 43.8% clip, plus 6.0 rebounds. In the first-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, he posted 30+ points in two contests.

Over his nine-year career with the Grizzlies, Rockets, and Suns, Brooks has played in 548 games (521 starts), averaging 14.8 points on 42.1% shooting, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. He earned NBA All-Defensive Team honors in 2023. In the past six seasons, he has helped his team reach the playoffs five times; across 33 career playoff games, he averages 16.5 points on 40.7% shooting, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.

Brooks was selected 45th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. He played collegiately at the University of Oregon, leading the Ducks to the 2017 NCAA Final Four — the program's first national semifinal appearance in 78 years.

Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Brooks also serves as a co-captain of the Canadian national men's basketball team and participated in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. At the 2023 FIBA World Cup, he was named the tournament's Defensive Player of the Year and helped Canada capture the bronze medal — the country's first medal in a major men's basketball competition since 1936. In the bronze medal game, Brooks erupted for 39 points to lead Canada past the United States, setting a record for the highest individual scoring output in a FIBA World Cup medal game.
