Hello everyone, I'm Game Xiaodi.

The KPL Summer Regular Season has reached the placement stage, and in yesterday's two placement matches, a rare event occurred: the same hero achieved two pentakills on the same match day. First, in the match between Hero and WST, Silver got a pentakill using Goya; then, in the first game between KSG and Wolf, Xiaoyu also got a pentakill with Goya. It's well known that the gold lane has been called the "sterilization lane" by players for quite a while—surviving without dying is already a victory for marksmen. Yet Goya managed to get two pentakills in KPL on consecutive matches. Why this hero? In this episode, we'll discuss what makes Goya so strong.

Goya's Core Mechanics

Goya's damage output logic is completely different from most stationary marksmen. Her passive allows her sandboat to move and auto-attack simultaneously. Tapping the attack button fires three quick shots in a row, and every six shots triggers a penetrating enhanced attack that briefly accelerates her. Simply put, Goya doesn't need to stop and find a position to auto-attack like Hou Yi or Jialuo; her movement itself is her damage output.

This alone gives her a much higher margin for error. In team fights, marksmen like Hou Yi and Jialuo have to find safe positions to fight; a bad position can lead to instant death. Goya stays in motion the whole time, making it harder for enemies to aim at her. Combined with her first skill's burst acceleration and drift turn, she can stick to enemies while chasing, or use an acceleration and tail-whip slow to create distance when retreating. Her kiting ability is quite outstanding among marksmen.

Additionally, her second skill is a reverse dash that can cross thin walls, allowing her to self-peel when assassins get close. Most importantly, her ultimate throws out a large sandstorm area that lasts 5 seconds, slowing enemies and pulling them toward the center. Enhanced attacks hitting enemies in the sandstorm trigger an explosion dealing bonus damage based on missing health. This skill can be used to initiate fights or counter assassin dives. Among marksmen, Goya is basically the only one with this level of crowd control.

Why Her Pick Rate Is Low in Solo Queue

Although she looks great in professional play, she's not very common in solo queue. The gap mainly lies in the learning curve and team coordination.

Goya's sandboat handling has inertia mechanics—starting and stopping are not instant. New players often steer into the enemy team or over-drift, and subtle control differences directly affect damage output. Moreover, her basic attacks have limited on-hit effects, so items like Statikk Shiv have low efficiency. Her build must go for attack speed and critical strike, which differs from conventional marksman builds. Many players who first try her easily pick the wrong items.

Furthermore, a hero that relies on kiting heavily depends on team coordination. Goya needs time to deal damage, during which her teammates' support is crucial. Otherwise, while she's kiting, she might get rushed and killed instantly, rendering her damage ineffective. In solo queue, coordination is often minimal, so such sustained damage heroes are harder to play compared to simple burst heroes.

That's all for this episode. If you enjoyed it, feel free to leave a like and support. If you have anything to say, ask, or want to see, leave a comment in the comment section; I'll read them all~
