Hello everyone, I'm Game Xiaodi.
The marksman position has always been a hot topic for equipment choices. Both the ballistic build and crit build have their followers. For example, Ge Ya and Di Renjie often use the ballistic build, while Sun Shangxiang and Huang Zhong are representatives of the crit build. This time, the new hero Lu Yana was released, and her win rate exceeded 50% on the first day. Although everyone thinks her strength is relatively weak, the data actually reflects the issue. So what we need to consider is the equipment choice: ballistic build or crit build? In this episode, Xiaodi will discuss this question.

Let's first talk about the difference between the two playstyles. The core of the ballistic build is attack speed and basic attack effects, relying on items like Lightning Dagger and End of Era to add extra ballistic damage to each basic attack. Its advantages are fast build, stable early damage, and sustainability against tanks. Representative heroes like Ai Lin and Di Renjie use the ballistic build. The core of the crit build is crit rate and crit damage, relying on items like Infinity Edge and Dawnbreaker to pursue high burst damage from a single crit. Its advantages are high late-game damage ceiling, capable of eliminating enemies with one crit wave. Representative heroes like Sun Shangxiang and Huang Zhong use the crit build. There is no absolute good or bad between the two playstyles; it mainly depends on which side the hero's own mechanics suit, choosing the playstyle that brings more benefits.

Lu Yana can actually play both styles, but it is recommended to transition from ballistic to crit, that is, use the ballistic build in the early stage and switch to crit equipment in the mid-to-late stage, which yields higher benefits.

There are three reasons. First, Lu Yana's early damage is indeed low, which is her biggest weakness. She needs attack speed items like End of Era and Lightning Dagger to increase her farming speed. Lightning Dagger is cheap, has high attack speed, and provides ballistic effects, allowing Lu Yana to clear waves and jungle faster in the early game, rolling up the economy as soon as possible. If she directly builds crit items, Infinity Edge is expensive, and the period before it is completed will be very uncomfortable.

The second reason is that Lu Yana has no mobility and poor self-protection. The ballistic build provides a slightly tankier body with error tolerance bonus. The combination of Lightning Dagger and End of Era provides both attack speed and lifesteal, making her stronger in sustained fights. In early skirmishes, she is less likely to lose, and the error tolerance is much higher than the fragile crit build.

The third reason, and a key point, is that Lu Yana's ring blade cutting counts as only one basic attack for three hits, so the efficiency of triggering ballistic effects is not high, and the ballistic benefit is reduced. In contrast, crit is calculated directly based on damage, and the ring blade itself can crit. Therefore, switching to crit equipment in the late game provides more direct damage conversion and a higher ceiling.
Here is a specific equipment reference: choose End of Era in the early stage for laning benefit; then Swift Boots to increase attack speed and provide some healing; then Lightning Dagger to speed up development and optimize feel; then Shadow Blade to further increase attack speed and crit rate, preparing for the crit build; then Infinity Edge to further increase crit rate and crit damage; finally, the ultimate item, Dawnbreaker, to increase damage output. The reason for delaying this item is that Lu Yana's skills have high magic damage bonus, which dilutes penetration benefits, so it's better to directly deal damage with crits.

If it reaches the very late game, Lightning Dagger can be replaced with defensive items like Ominous Sign or Witch's Cloak, and boots can be replaced with survival items. After all, Lu Yana has little self-protection ability and is a pure stationary shooter, so she needs items like Spectral Blade or Shadow Sleeve.
