LPL Pioneers Suffer First Loss! JDG Sets Historic Record: BO5 Swept in 77 Minutes

The first round of the League of Legends 2026 Global Pioneers group stage has concluded. On the previous match day, LPL's second seed JDG faced LCK's top seed GEN. Before the match, few viewers favored JDG, as GEN is a major championship favorite. Most believed JDG would succeed if they won just one game. Surprisingly, JDG was dominated throughout, swept by GEN in a BO5 with a swift finish.

In the first game, HongQ solo-killed Chovy in the mid lane, and JunJia secured advantages in both top and bot lanes, starting with a 3-0 lead. Viewers thought JDG might upset GEN. However, during the team fight phase, JDG crumbled like a soft persimmon, collapsing upon contact. They suffered consecutive team fight losses and lost the match after only 23 minutes. The third game mirrored the first: an early lead but inability to execute in team fights.

The second game was slightly tense in the early and mid stages, with both teams trading blows. But in the late game, JDG's team fights were repeatedly crushed. The total duration of all three games combined was only 77 minutes and 24 seconds. In LPL history, this BO5 is the shortest duration our region has ever had against LCK. The previous record was set by TES in the S10 season, when they faced GEN with a total duration of 81 minutes and 58 seconds.

Not even reaching 80 minutes, this duration is shorter than many BO3 matches. Everyone expected JDG to lose, but losing so disgracefully is truly hard to accept. They couldn't win even with an equal start, and with an advantageous start they were still crushed. Is GEN truly so powerful that they are unbeatable? Or perhaps JDG is genuinely weak. Based on their performance, the latter seems more convincing.

In this BO5, JDG's top lane and jungle actually performed decently, especially JunJia, whose early-game tempo wasn't far behind Canyon. However, the mid and bot lanes were severely outclassed. Apart from that one solo kill, HongQ had no highlight moments and was practically invisible throughout. The bot lane couldn't win lane phase, constantly pressured, and even with jungle assistance couldn't carry. GALA's condition is truly concerning; he performed the worst on the team.

In contrast, JDG's viewing experience for fans was worse than watching LYON versus LOUD in the same group. The Indian God King played unconventional picks like top lane Vayne and Garen, thrilling the audience. Of course, the opponents are different; GEN, as a championship favorite, is indeed far ahead of other teams in the group. But as LPL's second seed, JDG's performance being so abstract is shocking.

After losing to GEN, JDG dropped to the losers' bracket. Their next match is against the Brazilian home team LOUD. If they win, they will likely face LYON next. Both teams' paper strength is also below JDG's. But after watching JDG versus GEN, it's no longer safe to say JDG can surely beat these two teams, because their team fighting was so poor, constantly giving opportunities and being mercilessly outmaneuvered by GEN.

If they can't even beat LOUD, JDG will stop at the quarterfinals. In Group B, GEN will surely take one of the advancement spots, with a 99% chance of two consecutive wins in the group stage. JDG really needs to review and improve, aiming first to defeat LOUD before considering LYON. Compared to Group A, the other two teams in Group B are already weak. If they can't advance to the semifinals under these conditions, JDG is truly hopeless.

Conclusion:

Before facing GEN, everyone worried JDG's top and mid lanes would be breached. After the match, it turned out GALA was the weakest. If the duo continues like this, JDG might indeed stop at the quarterfinals. Previously, GALA could carry when helped; now, without help he loses lane, and with help he disappears. As the team's star, performing like this is truly unacceptable.

So, do you think JDG can still reach the semifinals?
