JDG's 3-0 sweep by GEN: Is this the most frustrating BO5 the LPL has ever played?

On the second day of the 2026 Pioneer Tournament, GEN from the LCK swept JDG from the LPL with a 3-0 victory. They won the match with a nearly commanding display, finishing the first game in 23 minutes, the second in 24 minutes, and the third in 29 minutes, averaging 25 minutes per game to close out this BO5. This matchup cannot even be described as one-sided; it's hard to believe it was played between two top-tier League of Legends regional teams. Perhaps this GEN squad is simply too strong?

Many might have expected JDG to lose, but not to be defeated so thoroughly. During the matches, even coach Tabe couldn't hold back. Three games attempted three different drafting strategies, yet none resolved the issues. His previous teams, RNG, BLG, and AL, all had explosive potential, but this JDG showed none throughout this BO5. Post-match, some commented on JDG's performance: across three games, they never even saw GEN's second-tier turrets. It could even be said this is the most frustrating BO5 the LPL has played in recent years!

The LPL has previously experienced many BO5 sweeps, most notably TES being twice swept by T1, facing T1 in their "peak" state during the World Championships—once by ZOFGK and once by DOFGK. In the S14 World Championship, TES against T1 lasted over 30 minutes per game (31/33/37 minutes). In the S15 World Championship, TES against T1 averaged over 28 minutes (30/27/28 minutes). At that time, TES's laning wasn't poor, and they could contest in small skirmishes, but they lagged in team fights and operational maneuvering, suddenly finding themselves far behind in equipment and level.

There was also LNG's sweep by T1 in S13; after that match, jungler Tarzan carried the stigma of "loyalty." Similarly, in the S13 finals, WBG against T1 was also a three-game quick finish: first game 30 minutes, second 29 minutes, third 25 minutes. Actually, being swept isn't the main issue; the key point is, over so many years and matches, our drafting and operations have consistently been led by the nose, unable to execute our own style. Perhaps it truly falls to BLG now—can they stop this GEN team?
