Riot Games intends to make a series of changes in patch 26.16 to aid traditional marksmen in competing more effectively against the bot lane mage dominance.
Recently, picks like Ziggs, Seraphine, Xerath, and Viktor have been appearing more frequently in the bot lane carry position. Their fast wave clear, strong poke, and early pressure have pushed many traditional marksmen out of the meta.
Instead of directly nerfing individual mages, Riot Games wants to adjust the competitive environment through three key changes in patch 26.16.
The most notable change is the increase in base magic resistance for most marksmen. This helps auto-attack-based champions mitigate the poke damage they take during the laning phase.
Tristana is an exception as Riot wants to avoid her becoming too strong and continuing to be prioritized in the mid lane.
Additionally, Lethal Tempo and Fleet Footwork are also expected to be buffed. These adjustments could improve marksmen's trading, sustain, and positioning against magic damage-heavy compositions.
The roaming ability of support champions, especially long-range picks, will be limited. Riot believes that supports roaming too early and creating map-wide advantages have helped bot lane mages snowball easily.
Support Camille is also among those being adjusted. The development team's goal is to bring this champion back to the top lane role instead of continuing to be a strong engage tool in the bot lane.
According to Riot Games, the issue is not entirely about mage strength but comes from marksmen being weak early game while supports have too much influence. If the changes prove effective, names like Jinx, Caitlyn, Kai'Sa, and Ashe could return strongly in the meta LMHT 26.16.
