OFFICIAL: World Top 10 goalkeeper returns to Vietnam national team

Following his recovery from a ligament injury, Ho Van Yi has been summoned to rejoin the Vietnam futsal national team in late March.

To prepare for the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship taking place in early April in Thailand, the coaching staff of the Vietnam futsal national team announced a training list of 20 players. Notably, goalkeeper Ho Van Yi returns – who had been absent for a long time due to an injury that had not fully healed.

The recall of Ho Van Yi shows that coach Diego Giustozzi places high expectations on this experienced goalkeeper. The coaching staff hopes he will quickly regain his best physical condition during training to be ready to contribute in the upcoming regional tournament.

If he meets the professional requirements, Ho Van Yi will add quality to the team's goalkeeping position. Additionally, the team has also called up young goalkeeper Nguyen Quoc Giau (born 2009) to provide opportunities for this player to accumulate experience and refine his skills.

Essentially, the squad that recently participated in the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship finals continues to be retained for this training session. This indicates coach Diego Giustozzi highly values the capabilities of players like Gia Hung, Cong Vien, Manh Dung, Da Hai, and Ngoc Anh – individuals who have demonstrated composure and experience on the international stage.

Moreover, some new names such as Nguyen Thac Hieu and An Lam Toi are also given opportunities to test themselves during the preparation phase. However, to be included in the official tournament roster, these players will need to exert great effort during training and friendly matches.

According to the plan, the Vietnam futsal national team will assemble from March 16th in Ho Chi Minh City before heading to Thailand for training and playing friendlies against two strong clubs, Hong Yen Takam and Blackpearl. At the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship (April 6–12), Vietnam is in Group A alongside Myanmar, Timor-Leste, and host Thailand, aiming for the tournament's final.
