Former captain Roy Keane believes Michael Carrick is not the suitable choice to lead MU long-term, despite the team's recent 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
In the 30th round match, MU delivered an impressive performance by defeating Aston Villa thanks to goals from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko. This result helps "The Red Devils" consolidate their third-place position on the standings, while also creating a 3-point gap with Aston Villa themselves, who are currently fourth.
Additionally, Man United also leads Liverpool by 5 points and Chelsea by 6 points as the season has only 8 rounds remaining. This victory further fuels calls for the club's leadership to appoint Carrick as the official head coach after the season.

Carrick achieves his 7th win after 9 matches leading MU
Since taking over the team in January, Carrick has helped Man United secure 7 victories in their last 9 matches. This achievement leads many to believe the former English midfielder deserves a long-term opportunity at Old Trafford.
However, Roy Keane holds a completely opposite view. In a post-match analysis program on Sky Sports, the Irish legend asserted that Man United should seek a more experienced manager.
"I think the leadership might consider that, but personally, I wouldn't. Carrick has done very well helping the team win recent matches, but there are still better options out there," Keane stated.

Roy Keane does not believe Carrick is a long-term choice
According to the former Man United captain, Carrick is benefiting from favorable circumstances where he only needs to focus on winning each match, rather than bearing the full responsibilities of a long-term head coach.
Keane believes the job of a permanent manager is much more complex, including decisions on player contracts, pre-season planning, medical staff, transfers, and team development strategy.
"Players often prefer a temporary manager. But when you are the permanent manager, you face many greater responsibilities. Carrick currently only needs to focus on winning, but when holding long-term authority, everything changes," Keane added.

Rooney does not support Keane's viewpoint
The 54-year-old former midfielder emphasized that Man United needs a manager who has won major trophies and has experience competing in European tournaments. According to him, Carrick could reach that level in the future, but the current moment is still too early.
When asked about suitable candidates for the Man United head coach position, Keane mentioned some prominent names like Diego Simeone, Luis Enrique, or Thomas Tuchel. He believes the club's leadership should strive to find the best possible manager, rather than hastily giving the opportunity to Carrick.
Keane's viewpoint is completely opposite to former striker Wayne Rooney, who has publicly supported Carrick continuing to lead Man United.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Rooney affirmed that Carrick is the right person for the team: "100% he should be given this job. I understand Carrick very well, his personality and his working style. The team needs a calm person who understands the environment here, and Carrick has brought that."
While experts and former players debate the future of the coaching position, Carrick himself appears quite calm regarding the speculation. After the victory over Aston Villa, he stated he is only focused on his current work.
"I don't pay too much attention to the external noise. I am here, doing my best and enjoying this job. What happens in the future will happen," Carrick shared.

The Premier League standings after 30 rounds
The interim manager of Man United also mentioned he has had discussions with CEO Omar Berrada and Football Director Jason Wilcox, but his current priority is preparing for the upcoming away match against Bournemouth in the next round.
As the season enters its decisive phase, Carrick's performance in the remaining matches could play a crucial role in determining whether he will be given the opportunity to lead Man United long-term.
