Gary Neville expresses concern about Bryan Mbeumo's physical condition, after the forward limped off the pitch during Manchester United's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
During Manchester United's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford, former star Gary Neville expressed concern about forward Bryan Mbeumo potentially suffering an injury after being substituted in the second half.
Mbeumo left the pitch midway through the second half, replaced by Benjamin Sesko. Shortly after coming on, the Slovenian striker scored the third goal for MU, helping the home team maintain their impressive form.
However, while leaving the pitch, Mbeumo was seen limping and exchanging words with defender Diogo Dalot. While commentating for Sky Sports, Gary Neville noticed this detail and questioned the physical condition of the Cameroonian player.
Neville shared: “Is he injured? Mbeumo seems to be limping. When leaving the field, he shook his head and looked towards a MU teammate as if something was wrong.”
Mbeumo's body language clearly worried MU's coaching staff, especially manager Michael Carrick. The 26-year-old forward has gone through 5 consecutive matches in the Premier League without scoring, though he is still considered one of the team's standout players this season.
When Mbeumo left the pitch, MU was leading 2-1. Earlier, Casemiro opened the scoring for the home team early in the second half, but Ross Barkley equalized for Aston Villa in a controversial situation, where Amadou Onana was nearly penalized by VAR.
After replacing Mbeumo, Sesko quickly scored, sealing the 3-1 victory for Manchester United. In the final minutes of the match, Manuel Ugarte was brought on to replace Casemiro to reinforce the midfield.
Notably, Mbeumo has played in every match under Carrick since the manager took over the team. However, the Cameroonian forward frequently has to leave the pitch early. He only played the full 90 minutes in the draw against West Ham United, where he assisted Sesko's equalizing goal in the 96th minute.
Earlier, this duo also combined to secure a 1-0 victory for MU against Everton, but Mbeumo again left the pitch just 7 minutes after the goal was scored. He was then replaced by Noussair Mazraoui.
Mbeumo's physical condition had previously raised doubts about his availability for the match against Crystal Palace. Nevertheless, he still started and played 85 minutes before being replaced by Joshua Zirkzee. Carrick later made a similar substitution in MU's 1-2 defeat to Newcastle.
