The World Football Federation (FIFA) has announced a significant change to the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings, whereby the rankings of national men's and women's teams will be updated in real-time during national team training camps (FIFA Days).
Specifically, fans can follow the provisional rankings of teams as matches are underway. Every goal scored on the pitch, in any international match, can directly impact the positions of teams on the rankings, thereby offering a more intuitive and dynamic perspective on global ranking fluctuations.
It is anticipated that the international matches of the men's national team in March 2026 will be the first to apply this live update format. For women's football, the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings will begin real-time updates from the international training camp in April 2026.
Established in 1992 (for men's football) and 2003 (for women's football), the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings were previously only announced after all matches in a FIFA Days period concluded. With the new change, the rankings will be continuously updated based on confirmed data from ongoing matches.
FIFA stated that the ranking calculation formula remains unchanged, but will be applied immediately upon receiving goal information, thereby instantly reflecting changes in points and ranking positions of teams.
Real-time updates will apply to all internationally recognized men's and women's national team matches, including official tournaments and international friendly matches. Rankings during matches are provisional. The official rankings will be confirmed after all matches in the FIFA Days period conclude and will be announced on FIFA's official platforms.
