Vietnam's 3-0 win over Malaysia has not yet been officially recognized by FIFA.

The Vietnamese national team temporarily fell to 108th in the world rankings due to FIFA not updating the points after the decision awarding the win over Malaysia.

The Vietnamese national team unexpectedly dropped to 108th in the world in the real-time rankings recently released by FIFA. This is the first time the live ranking system has been implemented, reflecting point fluctuations during matches, instead of waiting for updates after each FIFA Days period.

The drop in ranking of the Vietnamese national team is not due to recent match results, but mainly because the points have not been adjusted following the AFC ruling. Previously, AFC awarded a 3-0 loss to Malaysia meaning Vietnam should be credited with the win, which would have added significant points.

The FIFA rankings temporarily place Vietnam at 108th in the world.

Specifically, coach Kim Sang Sik's team was refunded 13.91 points deducted after the previous loss to Malaysia, and additionally received 11.08 points from the awarded win. Combined, Vietnam could gain 24.99 points—enough to make a noticeable leap in the rankings.

If fully updated, Vietnam's points would increase to approximately 1,214.5, thereby rising to around 103rd in the world. However, in the current real-time ranking table, FIFA has not yet recorded this change, temporarily affecting the team's position.

Vietnam won 3-0 against Malaysia but still awaits FIFA's point update to improve its ranking.

Meanwhile, FIFA's new live ranking system is considered a groundbreaking improvement. Fans can now track ranking changes as goals occur in any international match, from men's to women's levels, provided it is within the approved system.

In the coming period, opportunities to improve the ranking remain open for Vietnam, especially with an important match against Malaysia in the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. The official rankings will be announced by FIFA on April 1, after the March international matches conclude.
