Vietnamese-Croatian forward Antonio Moric shares his feelings upon first call-up to Vietnam U23, stating he will strive to prove his ability and adapt to the new environment.
Young forward Antonio Moric made notable remarks after unexpectedly being called up to train with Vietnam U23 during preparations for the CFA Team China 2026.
The 2008-born player couldn't hide his joy at getting his first chance in a higher-level environment. “I feel very proud and happy to wear the Vietnam national team jersey. This is a great opportunity for me to learn and develop,” Moric shared.
Despite just joining, the striker currently playing in Croatia said he quickly adapted to the tactical requirements from the coaching staff. “When the coach explains, I understand and always try to follow 100% of what is required in training,” he said.
Comparing with the European football environment, Moric acknowledged there are certain differences, especially at U19 level. However, when training with the U23 team, this forward felt the intensity wasn't too unfamiliar: “At U19 it's different, but when moving to a stronger team, I find it almost similar to what I've experienced before.”
Nevertheless, Moric frankly admitted encountering some initial difficulties, particularly regarding fitness and communication. “I'm a bit tired due to the training intensity, but I can still keep up. Communication in Vietnamese is also somewhat difficult, I use English more,” he added.
Currently, Moric is deployed as a striker, his preferred position. When asked about differences in playing style among new teammates, this player felt things weren't too unfamiliar: “I find the playing style quite similar, not many differences.”
Speaking about future direction, Moric affirmed he still wants to continue developing his career in Europe. “I think European football has many differences in physicality, speed, and environment. Therefore, I want to stay there. But if a suitable opportunity arises, I could consider returning in the future,” he expressed.
Notably, Moric revealed his idol is Luka Modric, the star famous for his leadership and influence on the pitch. This somewhat shows the ambition of the young forward of Vietnamese-Croatian descent to reach far. Getting a chance with Vietnam U23 is an important step in Antonio Moric's career, opening opportunities for him to prove himself and become a promising figure for Vietnamese football in the future.
