When asked whether the player might not have a chance to play again this season, Carrick said: “It’s hard to say. Back injuries are such that sometimes you think they’re fine, but then suddenly they aren’t. We are patient and working step by step, we’ll have to wait and see. We will take the time, but try to get him back as quickly as possible.”

De Ligt's injury also raises questions about his ability to participate in the 2026 World Cup with the Dutch national team. This issue worries experts and fans, as if he does not recover timely, De Ligt could miss the planet's biggest tournament. Regarding the possibility of surgery, Carrick was cautious: “I don’t want to discuss that at this moment. We will try everything to help Matthijs recover, whatever it requires.”
