Legend Cafu praised his compatriot Neymar by comparing him to two icons of world football, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has captured the attention of the football world in recent years. However, according to Cafu, Neymar is actually the most outstanding player of recent generations when considering technical aspects.
In an interview with Podpah, the two-time World Cup champion with Brazil (1994 and 2002) emphasized Neymar's technique, but also affirmed that Messi and Ronaldo's level of dedication is higher.
Specifically, Cafu shared: "In my opinion, Neymar is superior to Messi in technique. But perhaps Messi's commitment and fighting spirit are different. Among recent generations, Neymar excels in skill and technique, comparable to either of those two. However, in terms of dedication, Cristiano Ronaldo still leads."
This statement was made in the context of Neymar continuing to be the focus of debate regarding his ability to participate in a fourth World Cup in his career. While striving to regain his best form at Santos, the superstar born in 1992 has not regularly appeared in coach Carlo Ancelotti's call-up lists.
After missing this March call-up, Neymar expressed disappointment at not being named in the squad. The former Barcelona player stated: "Of course I am sad and disappointed about not being called up. But I remain focused every day, every training session, every match. We will achieve our goal. There is still one final call-up, and the dream is not over yet."
Previously, Coach Ancelotti emphasized that he only selects players in their best physical condition, meaning 100% fitness when World Cup 2026. However, the Italian strategist also indicated that some stars do not need to undergo overly strict fitness evaluations, thus still opening an opportunity for Neymar to be in the final list, even if he misses the upcoming two friendly matches.
