Manchester United's psychological price for buying Tonali, above 70 million may be abandoned! Signing Guimarães has one hidden concern.

Everyone knows that Manchester United is preparing to strengthen their midfield lineup during the summer transfer window. Carrick leading the team back to the Champions League is almost certain, which will provide more funds to buy a successor for Casemiro. Among them, Newcastle United's two midfielders Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães are the target players most closely linked with the Red Devils recently.

Italian media reports that Newcastle United would need to receive 87 million pounds (100 million euros) to sell the 25-year-old Tonali, but Manchester United does not want to pay such a high price. According to Il Giornale, Manchester United's willing psychological price range is 61 million to 70 million pounds.

Of course, Manchester United's pre-set price ceilings before buying players are usually completely unreliable. Based on past experience, if the club urgently needs the player, they will eventually yield. Before deals like signing Mount for 60 million pounds, buying Højlund for 72 million pounds, and acquiring Mbemo for 71 million pounds, the transfer department also claimed they wouldn't buy if too expensive, but ultimately did.

Tonali hopes to continue playing in the Champions League, but Newcastle certainly cannot achieve this goal this season, and even European qualification is hard to obtain. They were reversed and defeated 1-2 by Tyne-Wear derby rival Sunderland on Sunday, currently ranking only 12th. However, the "Magpies" will not sell Tonali at a low price anyway. His contract ostensibly runs until 2028, but has actually been extended to 2030, giving them control.

More likely to be sold this summer is Newcastle captain Guimarães. The 28-year-old Brazilian international has already engaged in discussions with Manchester United. The renowned Brazilian media UOL Esporte reveals: Manchester United has contacted the Brazilian player's representatives. Guimarães attracts Manchester United's board with many advantages including: Premier League experience, locker room leadership ability, and a relatively reasonable transfer fee, around 70 million euros (60 million pounds).

This has been confirmed by Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. "It can be confirmed that Manchester United and Guimarães indeed had a meeting in recent weeks. The meeting didn't happen yesterday, today, or tomorrow, but several weeks ago. Guimarães' agent met with Manchester United representatives," Romano said. "The news from Brazil is accurate: there indeed was contact, and Manchester United maintains a good relationship with his agency."

Romano continued: "From now on, Manchester United and Guimarães can negotiate to agree on various personal terms, aiming to complete the player's acquisition in the summer window. However, there is still a long way to go to achieve this goal. Guimarães is indeed favored by Manchester United, but Tonali is also valued, and there are other players on the candidate list, such as Elliot Anderson."

Guimarães' contract with Newcastle runs until 2028, but according to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, if Newcastle cannot obtain Champions League qualification, a gentlemen's agreement stipulates that Guimarães has the right to transfer to a Champions League team. However, such agreements may not be legally binding. Newcastle does not want to lose Guimarães and hopes to renew his contract.

However, Guimarães' age and recent injury record may pose risks in acquiring him. The Brazilian has been absent for some time due to a hamstring injury, and after recently recovering, he was diagnosed with a highly contagious disease, forced into isolation treatment, avoiding any physical activity, hence missing Newcastle's match against Sunderland.

Guimarães explained: "The reason I couldn't play is simple. After returning from Barcelona, I noticed my face was swollen, initially thinking it was an allergy. But the next day when I went to training, I found the actual situation was much more complicated. I sent a photo to the doctor, and then he came to examine me. It was confirmed that I had mumps, and for the next 5 days I had to undergo isolation treatment, while also avoiding any physical activity. My current priority is to recover health and return to optimal condition as soon as possible."

It is worth mentioning that in the recent match where Manchester United was defeated 1-2 by Newcastle, Guimarães also had an action suspected of mocking Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes. At that time, St James' Park spectators shouted "There's only one Bruno," and Guimarães also shouted "I am Bruno," while pounding his chest with his fist on the Newcastle badge.

Of course, this is not an obstacle. If Guimarães transfers to Manchester United, then Old Trafford would have two Brunos!
