The regional media outlet Seasia Goal recently drew attention by publishing information about anticipated comeback appearances in Southeast Asia during the March FIFA Days.
Notably, Vietnam national team defender Doan Van Hau was listed among the "three major names" in the region returning to their national teams after a long absence. Specifically, Seasia Goal wrote: "Three major names have rejoined their national teams, including Doan Van Hau (Vietnam), Elkan Baggott (Indonesia), and Daisuke Sato (Philippines)." These are all players who previously held important roles for their national teams but were sidelined for various reasons, particularly injuries.
For Doan Van Hau specifically, this return holds special significance. After a lengthy period of injury treatment, the defender born in 1999 has finally been able to reappear in Vietnam's call-up list, raising high hopes among fans. This is not only a professional addition but also a morale boost for the entire team.
During this training camp, alongside Van Hau, Vietnam's defense also features several notable names such as Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Tran Dinh Trong, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, and goalkeeper Nguyen Filip. The blend of experience and youth promises to provide the team with more flexible tactical options.
At the club level, Van Hau currently plays for Hanoi Police and regularly operates as a wing-back. When paired with Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, this team possesses two wing defenders with distinct styles that effectively complement each other. Both have international experience and prioritize defensive solidity, making them strong candidates for starting positions in the Vietnam national team.
Once regarded as one of Vietnam's top wing defenders, Van Hau endured a difficult period having to leave the pitch due to a serious injury. However, through perseverance and continuous effort, the Thai Binh-born player has gradually returned, regaining his form and the trust of the coaching staff.
Notably, after his return, Van Hau's playing style has also undergone a clear change. No longer overly reliant on constant bursts of speed as before, he plays more calmly and calculated in each situation. Although his involvement in attacks has decreased, every move by the 26-year-old defender yields clear effectiveness, enough to make a difference on the field.
