Bangladesh's coach and players display confidence ahead of matches with Vietnam and Singapore, committed to competing with a collective mindset.
Bangladesh national team coach and players are preparing mentally for upcoming challenges during FIFA Day, notably the friendly match against Vietnam. This is an opportunity for the South Asian team to demonstrate its capabilities and enhance its regional standing, while also preparing for important future tournaments.
The match against Vietnam will take place on March 26, followed by Bangladesh facing Singapore in the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers on March 31. With these two matches, the Bangladesh team aims to both gain experience and achieve positive results to make an impact on Asian football's landscape.
Recently, Bangladesh player Shamit Shome expressed optimism about his team's chances. He noted that securing good results against strong opponents like Vietnam and Singapore would be a significant step forward. “Our first target is Vietnam, then Singapore. The ultimate goal after the June matches is the SAFF Championship (South Asian Football Championship). We are playing with pride. In football, success only comes when everyone plays in rhythm,” the 28-year-old player shared with domestic media last week.
Shamit also emphasized that teamwork is the key factor for achieving good results: "You cannot win a match relying on just one person. From defense to attack, all parts must fight together. We must prepare best for each match by playing one game at a time." This perspective helps Bangladesh maintain unity and play systematically, especially against opponents ranked higher in FIFA.
In the latest FIFA rankings, Bangladesh is ranked 181, significantly lower than Vietnam (103) and Singapore (148). However, coach Javier Cabrera, the Spanish leader of the team, believes the gap is not an insurmountable barrier. He stated: "On paper, Vietnam is a stronger team. They are even stronger than Singapore. But we see the difference is not too big. Bangladesh can compete with both teams and play with a winning spirit."
With determination and thorough preparation, Bangladesh aims for matches that both provide learning opportunities and affirm its position. The combination of players' team spirit and the coaching staff's strategic approach promises to deliver exciting, unpredictable contests for fans. This is also an opportunity for Bangladesh football to make a mark, creating a stepping stone for upcoming tournaments.
