After more than three years absent due to injury, center-back Tran Dinh Trong officially returns to the Vietnam national team with many emotions and determination to compete for a position.
After more than 1000 days of absence, center-back Tran Dinh Trong officially makes his comeback wearing the jersey of the Vietnam national team, carrying many special emotions on the day of team assembly. The return of the player born in 1997 is not only a positive signal for the defense but also a story of resilience after a long period disrupted by injury.
The last time Dinh Trong was included in the Vietnam national team list was in September 2022, when the team played friendlies against Afghanistan and Singapore. Further back, his most memorable mark in official competition was the 3-1 victory over China on exactly the first day of the Lunar New Year in 2022 – a milestone of historical significance for Vietnamese football.
Sharing about the moment of being called back, Dinh Trong could not hide his emotion: “The first time I heard the news about being in the preliminary list, I was already very happy. When the official announcement came, the feeling was even more eager, because it had been a very long time since I returned to the national team.”For him, wearing the national team jersey once again feels like a deserved reward after persistent efforts.
The journey back for the center-back belonging to CAHN Club was not easy, especially when he had to face persistent injuries. His family was the support that helped him overcome the difficult period: “When I returned to play after injury, my family was the biggest motivation helping me regain my form to have the opportunity to come back.”.
In the fiercely competitive environment of the national team, Dinh Trong clearly understands that his position is not guaranteed. He candidly shares: “Being called up together with my CAHN Club teammates will naturally be comfortable, but at the national team level everyone is a quality player so I have to work very hard to compete for an official spot. Looking at the list, everyone present deserves it.”
At the first training session, this center-back quickly integrated with his teammates and maintained close relationships with many familiar faces. He said: “I inquired about Tien Dung because he is facing some issues. With Duy Manh, we still exchange and maintain a very good relationship, hoping to stand side by side in upcoming matches. Regarding Son and Hen, I talked a bit, but because my English is still limited, we haven't exchanged much.”At the same time, when mentioning the new coaching staff, he was also cautious: “I just joined the team training this morning. I need to interact more with the coaching staff as well as the teammates to be able to assess most concretely. Regarding my own form, I think it's more appropriate for others and the experts to evaluate.”
