Former Premier League star arrives in Hanoi, ready to face Vietnam national team

Former Premier League player Hamza Choudhury has arrived in Hanoi, preparing to join the Bangladesh national team to face Vietnam.

On the afternoon of March 24, the Bangladesh national team trained at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (Hanoi), with the notable appearance of former Premier League star, Hamza Choudhury. The midfielder born in 1997 landed at Noi Bai Airport and immediately moved to the training ground to observe his teammates. Although not directly participating in the session due to the long journey, his presence is considered a major morale boost for the entire team ahead of the friendly match with the Vietnam national team.

Hamza Choudhury is not an unfamiliar name to international football fans. Having developed in the Leicester City academy since age 7, he was once one of the standout products of "The Foxes." This midfielder's career is highlighted by winning the FA Cup in the 2020/2021 season and the 2021 English Super Cup, while also contributing to Leicester City's Championship victory in 2023/24 under coach Enzo Maresca.

Although he once played for the England U21 team, Choudhury chose to represent the Bangladesh national team – the homeland of his mother. This decision immediately sparked a wave of enthusiasm in Dhaka, where fans welcomed him as a hero. After seven appearances, the 28-year-old midfielder has scored four goals and quickly became a key pillar in coach Javier Penato's tactical system.

Choudhury's arrival in Hanoi also simultaneously boosts the morale of the South Asian team. His teammates, from foreign-born players like Shamit Shome (who once played for Canada) to captain Jamal Bhuyan (of Danish origin), all expressed excitement seeing the former Premier League star present to prepare for the important upcoming match.

Choudhury's presence provided additional motivation for his teammates and attracted special attention from media and fans in Hanoi.

The upcoming friendly match with the Vietnam national team is not only an opportunity for Bangladesh to test themselves, but also a chance for Hamza Choudhury and key players to showcase their caliber. Thorough preparation and confident spirit promise to deliver an exciting, noteworthy match before the South Asian team heads towards further challenges in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
