Although highly anticipated, the 1.95m tall Vietnamese-American goalkeeper Nguyen Ba Nhat Ka was unable to stay with the Vietnam U19 national team because he could not fulfill the technical demands from the coaching staff in this training session.
Possessing a standout height among young players, Nhat Ka was once regarded as a promising option for the goalkeeper position. His ideal 1.95m physique gives him an advantage in aerial situations and controlling the penalty area space.
However, in the national team environment, decisive factors still lie in stability and overall technical proficiency – areas this young goalkeeper needs more time to refine. The VFF's additional call-up of two more goalkeepers, Nguyen Bao Ngoc (SLNA) and Aaron Tu Vinh Napierala (Ba Ria Vung Tau), intensified the competition for the goalkeeper spot.
Not being included in the final Vietnam U19 roster is not a major shock for Nhat Ka. He understands he is still in a development phase and needs to accumulate more match experience. The training period with the national team thus remains positively meaningful, providing him valuable experience on his career journey.

Nguyen Ba Nhat Ka was born in Vietnam but moved to Japan at age 8. He grew up in Japan's school football environment and is currently studying and playing for Ryutsu Keizai University's team – one of the reputable youth training systems. Nevertheless, in a highly competitive environment with over 80 players, Nhat Ka has not secured a starting position.
A notable aspect of this goalkeeper is his progressive spirit and proactive approach to self-development. Utilizing breaks between academic years, he returned to Vietnam to train at PVF and Da Nang before Tet. Earlier, when Vietnam U19 had a training camp in Japan, Nhat Ka also requested to participate to learn and gain more experience.
The temporary departure from Vietnam U19 at this moment can be seen as a necessary setback for Nhat Ka to reflect and improve himself. Like many other Vietnamese overseas players, he needs more adaptation time and to prove his capability. If he continues his efforts, opportunities to return to the national team in the future remain fully open for this young goalkeeper.
