The Thailand National Team has made a crucial adjustment to its squad ahead of the important match against Turkmenistan in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
According to the official announcement from the Football Association of Thailand, Coach Anthony Hudson has called up veteran striker Teerasil Dangda to replace Yotsakorn Burapha, the player who had to withdraw due to injury.
Specifically, Yotsakorn Burapha suffered a knee tendon inflammation during training with the national team. After examination by the medical team, it was determined that he would not recover in time for the crucial match on March 31st. Given this situation, the Thai coaching staff promptly convened and decided to make an additional call-up.
Teerasil Dangda (Thailand) is the highest-scoring player in AFF Cup history with 25 goals, behind him are legends such as Noh Alam Shah (Indonesia: 17 goals), Worrawoot Srimanka (Thailand) and Lê Công Vinh (Vietnam) with 15 goals each, and Lê Huỳnh Đức (Vietnam: 14 goals). This is also Teerasil's first recall to the Thailand National Team since June 2024, when he participated in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Teerasil Dangda's return is expected to bolster the attacking power of the "War Elephants," especially as the team needs a victory to secure their qualification ticket. With his extensive experience and proven goal-scoring ability, this striker is seen as a crucial option for Coach Anthony Hudson.
In a broader context, Southeast Asian football is facing the opportunity to create a historic milestone at the 2027 Asian Cup. Up to now, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore have already secured their places in the finals. Meanwhile, Thailand and Philippines hold the power to decide their fate in the final match.
If both teams win on March 31st, Southeast Asia will, for the first time in history, have five representatives participating in a single Asian Cup edition. This is considered a significant step forward, affirming the robust development of regional football on the Asian map.
