Jurgen Klopp spoke out after Mohamed Salah officially confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Earlier this week, Mohamed Salah confirmed that after nine years at Anfield, he will depart Liverpool at the end of the season.
The Egyptian star leaves not only as one of Liverpool's greatest players in history, but also as one of the finest ever to play in the Premier League. Salah will also join the list of Liverpool legends who have left the club in recent years, including manager Jurgen Klopp, who parted ways with the team at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Following this announcement, Klopp addressed the situation with a message to his former pupil and to The Kop's fans ahead of Salah's final matches for the club.
Speaking to The Anfield Wrap, the German strategist shared: “I hope he has a successful remainder of the season. We texted each other last night, and I genuinely hope he enjoys the rest of the season, but I know Mo can only enjoy it if you win and he scores.
I truly hope that in the final match, all of you will smile, feel happy and grateful to have witnessed one of the most incredible careers we have ever been part of.
Where he came from, what he went through, and what he gave to us is unbelievable. When you work with him, the bigger perspective is simply extraordinary; the numbers cannot compare. Maybe ten years from now we'll be sitting here, maybe Ekitike will break his records, but that would be very difficult.
One of the greatest players of all time will leave the club this summer; let's see where he appears next.”
When he joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 for a transfer fee of £34 million, no one could have imagined Salah would become so crucial to the Anfield side. However, under Klopp's guidance, Salah established himself as one of the finest players ever to wear Liverpool's shirt, becoming the club's third-highest scorer with over 250 goals.
Klopp added: "It was a joy, a challenge, a mutual effort when working together, and it produced an incredible outcome. I couldn't imagine something like this happening, the numbers he produced, those performances, some of which will surely never be surpassed.
Even now looking back, I still can't believe it was possible. The goals he scored, the consistency he showed, along with the desire and constant drive to improve."
Salah will bid farewell to Anfield in the match against Brentford on May 24, in the final round of the Premier League, and Klopp will almost certainly be present in the stands watching with pride.
