The Vietnam national team obtains extra preparation time for the 2027 Asian Cup Finals when the V-League organizers opt to halt the competition from mid-December 2026.
On the afternoon of March 26, 2026, at the Vietnam Football Federation hall in Hanoi, Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) held a conference to deploy preparation and organization tasks for the national professional football competitions of the 2026/27 season.
At the conference, VPF presented the proposed schedule framework and gathered feedback from relevant units, outlining several key timelines. Accordingly, the National Super Cup is scheduled for August 30, 2026. The National Championship will commence on September 4, 2026 and conclude on May 22, 2027. The National First Division is expected to start on September 11, 2026 and finish on May 16, 2027. Meanwhile, the National Cup will run from November 6, 2026 to May 30, 2027.
The schedule for the upcoming season is carefully designed to ensure sufficient time for national teams to fulfill international duties. Based on this plan, the season will include four FIFA Days breaks, along with a suspension period from mid-December 2026 to early February 2027. This interval serves for the national team's concentrated preparation for the Asian Cup 2027, which will take place in Saudi Arabia in January 2027, coinciding with the Lunar New Year holiday.
Thus, the Vietnam national team will be provided with maximum conditions for optimal preparation for the 2027 Asian Cup Finals. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his squad will have approximately three weeks to assemble and train before officially participating in this important tournament. The Vietnam national team has already secured a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup Finals ahead of one match round after Malaysia was handed a 0-3 defeat in both matches against Nepal and Vietnam.
After deducting the time allocated for international competitions according to FIFA and AFC schedules, the total time remaining for the national professional football competitions in the 2026/27 season is approximately 187 days. It is anticipated that the season will involve 14 clubs in V-League and 14 clubs in the First Division.
Given the limited time frame, teams not participating in international tournaments will play between 27 and 33 matches, with an average density of about 6 days per match. Meanwhile, clubs competing in AFC and AFF competitions will have to play at least 32 matches and possibly up to 54 matches, resulting in a denser schedule of roughly 3–4 days per match.
