Inter Miami has officially announced naming the eastern stand of their new stadium after Lionel Messi.
Inter Miami The club announced that the first match at Nu Stadium will take place on April 4 against Austin FC, which will also mark the official unveiling of the "Leo Messi Stand."
The MLS club stated that the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner will become a rare case in world sports, having a home stadium stand named after him while still actively playing.
Specifically, Inter Miami's announcement stated:“Honoring someone isn't always about closing a chapter. Sometimes, it's recognizing that you are witnessing something special.”
The Leo Messi Stand will be located in the eastern section of Nu Stadium, encompassing sections 117 to 121 on the lower level and 217 to 223 on the upper level.
Inter Miami, which debuted in 2020, announced in 2024 that they will play home matches at Miami Freedom Park with a capacity of 26,700 seats starting in 2026. The naming partner, Nubank, was also confirmed earlier this month.
The club's previous home, Chase Bank Stadium, had a capacity of 21,550 seats and was located about 33 miles away.
Messi joined Inter Miami in 2023 after leaving PSG and extended his contract until the end of the 2028 season in April. The Argentine superstar has scored 82 goals and provided 53 assists, leading the club's history in both statistics.
The Argentine national team player helped the club win the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, and the 2025 MLS Cup. The 2022 World Cup champion also earned the top scorer title and his second MVP award in 2025, after achieving it for the first time the previous year.
Currently, Inter Miami ranks third in the Eastern Conference after five matches, trailing the top team by three points with three wins.
