Thailand's 3-2 comeback victory pushes Vietnam to the bottom of the Asian tournament standings.

The Thailand U20 women's team produced a remarkable turnaround against Bangladesh in their Group A opener at the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup 2026.

In their Group A opener at the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup 2026, the Thailand U20 women's team hosted their opponent Bangladesh.

With home advantage, the Thai girls dominated the early stages of the match. In the 16th minute, Coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian's side had a chance to score from a free-kick when Rosita shot with her left foot, but the Bangladesh goalkeeper blocked it; Kulisara then followed up but the ball went over the bar. In the 23rd minute, Kulisara had another opportunity but her shot missed the post.

Despite numerous attacks failing to yield a goal, the host team unexpectedly paid the price when Bangladesh broke the deadlock with a goal from Moss Sagorika in a one-on-one situation. This was also the last notable incident in the first 45 minutes.

Entering the second half, the Thailand U20 women's team made substitutions and continued to attack. However, in the 50th minute, the Bangladesh girls doubled their lead when Sagorika completed her brace.

After relentless efforts, the host team was rewarded in the 69th minute. Kulisara scored from a penalty spot to reduce the deficit to 1-2. Just six minutes later, Rinyaphat Muladong successfully converted a second penalty, equalizing at 2-2.

In the 79th minute, Pitchayathida Manowang ignited the stadium by scoring to make it 3-2. No further goals were scored in the remaining minutes. Ultimately, the Thailand U20 women's team reversed the result to beat Bangladesh U20 women's team 3-2, securing three points in their opening match. In the other Group A match, China defeated Vietnam 3-0.

This result temporarily places the Thailand U20 women's team second in Group A, as they have the same points as China, the team that secured a 3-0 victory over Vietnam, but are inferior in tie-breaking criteria. Meanwhile, the Vietnam U20 women's team temporarily sits at the bottom of the group with a goal difference of -3.

To keep hopes alive for a quarter-final berth, the team under Coach Okiyama Masahiko must achieve a favorable result in their second match against Thailand, an opponent holding significant advantages in the race to advance.

The match between Thailand U20 and Vietnam U20 will take place at 20:00 on April 4.
