Former Vietnamese-American center-back Michal Nguyễn officially obtained the UEFA A coaching license, marking a new milestone after his playing period in V.League and the Vietnam national team.
Former center-back Vietnamese-American from Czech Republic Michal Nguyễn has just marked a new turning point in his career by officially obtaining the UEFA A coaching license – one of the prestigious qualifications at the coaching level in Europe. This is seen as a notable transformation for the player who once played in V.League and wore the jersey of the Vietnam national team.
Michal Nguyễn was born in 1989 in Litoměřice (Czech Republic), with a Vietnamese father and a Czech mother. He grew up in the European football environment and played prominently for Baník Most club. From 2009 to 2014, this center-back made 61 appearances in the Czech Second Division, leaving an impression with his solid, simple yet effective style of play.
Michal Nguyễn's name began to gain attention in Vietnam during the period when domestic football intensified the search for Vietnamese-American players. In 2013, he was called up by coach Hoàng Văn Phúc to the Vietnam national team for the 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers, even though he had never played in V.League at that time. This was a rare case and generated many expectations.
However, Michal Nguyễn's journey in the national team jersey did not last long. He only made two appearances, with his debut match against UAE leaving much regret due to a mistake leading to a penalty goal conceded. Later, he continued to feature in the match against Hong Kong but could not make an impact, and was not called up again.
At the end of 2014, Michal Nguyễn joined Becamex Bình Dương and quickly had a brilliant successful season as the club won the domestic triple in 2015. During his three seasons there, he played 54 matches before moving to play in Thailand and Malaysia. Though not exceptionally outstanding, this center-back maintained stability in his career.
Obtaining the UEFA A license shows that Michal Nguyễn is seriously pursuing a coaching career after leaving his peak playing days. With a foundation of experience from various football environments, the former Vietnamese-American center-back is expected to continue contributing to football in a new role in the future.
