Australia Triumphs, Vietnam Futsal Secures Third Place in Southeast Asian Tournament

On April 12 afternoon, the Vietnam futsal team delivered a convincing performance by defeating Australia with a decisive 4-0 score in the bronze medal match, thereby concluding the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship with a deserved bronze medal.

Vietnam Futsal Far Superior to Australia

Immediately after the opening whistle, the Vietnam team took proactive control and quickly established a difference. In the 3rd minute, Nhan Gia Hung swiftly seized an opportunity within the penalty area to open the scoring, giving the home team an early advantage. After the goal, Vietnam continued to maintain pressure, while Australia primarily relied on long-range finishing attempts but could not overcome the solidity of goalkeeper Pham Van Tu.

The dominant situation was concretized in the 18th minute, when Chau Doan Phat executed a precise close-range finish following a favorable assist from a teammate, raising the score to 2-0. Earlier, goalkeeper Pham Van Tu also consistently made excellent saves, helping Vietnam preserve the advantage before the break.

Entering the second half, the red-shirted team continued to completely control the match situation. In the 21st minute, Thinh Phat skillfully handled the ball and finished neatly, increasing the lead to 3-0 after an assist from Chau Doan Phat. Despite creating numerous dangerous opportunities afterward, the Vietnamese strikers still lacked a bit of accuracy to widen the gap earlier.

On the opposite side, Australia had to employ power-play in the final minutes aiming to find a consolation goal, but encountered Vietnam's tight and disciplined defensive system. Not only failing to score, they also conceded another goal in the 39th minute, when goalkeeper Pham Van Tu made a special mark with a shot from his own half into the empty net, sealing the 4-0 victory.

With an impressive performance against Australia, the Vietnam futsal team concluded the tournament with a third-place position, simultaneously demonstrating clear progress both in attack and defense.
