Great news! Snooker World Championship Qualifiers: Chang Bingyu scores another 147, taking away 1.35 million, only three have achieved this.

On April 13 Beijing time, the Snooker World Championship qualifiers continued. In the highly watched third round, Chinese rising star Chang Bingyu faced World Champion Luca Brecel. The first stage has concluded, with Chang leading 5-4. Whether he advances to the top 48 remains uncertain, but during this stage Chang scored a 147 maximum break, his second career maximum, triggering a bonus prize and successfully taking away £147,000, equivalent to 1.35 million RMB. This is truly great news!

Chang Bingyu is a Chinese post-00s rising star, known for his sharp accuracy. Currently, he may lack some experience and positional play. Starting from the qualifiers in this World Championship, his goal is to secure a spot in the main event. In the third round, he encountered Belgian star Luca Brecel, a former World Champion. However, since winning the world title, Brecel has faded from prominence, declining and falling out of the top 16, thus also starting from the qualifiers. Both are attacking players, so the match is expected to be fiery and explosive!

In the first frame, Brecel struck first, scoring a 89-point break to take the lead. Chang Bingyu then erupted, blasting two century breaks and a 60+ break to reverse the score 3-1. Brecel, not willing to be outdone, countered with a mix of attack and defense, responding with a 3-0 run to turn the tables 4-3. Seeing the momentum shift, Chang regained his strength, delivering a 60+ break and a 147 maximum, winning two consecutive frames to end the first stage 5-4. Whether he advances depends on the second stage, and the suspense remains very high!

According to World Snooker regulations, scoring two 147s in the four major tournaments (Saudi Masters, UK Championship, Masters, and World Championship) earns an additional £147,000 bonus. Since Chang Bingyu scored a 147 in the UK Championship qualifiers this season, scoring another 147 in the World Championship would secure this bonus. With Chang achieving his second career 147 maximum in the qualifier match against Brecel, he thus met the condition of two 147s in the four majors, successfully claiming the £147,000 extra bonus, and this prize is not shared!

So far, only three players have received the £147,000 extra bonus. The first was Paige last season, scoring two 147s in a single World Championship qualifier match. The second is Ronnie O'Sullivan, who scored two 147s in a single match during the Saudi Masters semifinals this season. The third is Chinese player Chang Bingyu, who achieved his first career 147 in this season's UK Championship and today scored his second career 147 in the World Championship qualifiers. Winning the bonus with his first two 147s is equivalent to a ranking tournament champion's prize money, which is really quite excellent!
