After clinching his inaugural club championship, Cong Phuong took to his personal social media to share an emotional note.
On the evening of June 6, striker Nguyen Cong Phuong expressed his deep feelings on his personal page after helping Dong Nai win the 2025/26 National First Division championship and officially earn promotion to V.League. The forward from Nghe An stated that the goal he and the team had pursued over the past two seasons was finally achieved. Cong Phuong emphasized that today's success is the result of a long journey of effort, perseverance, and relentless determination.
In his post, the former HAGL striker admitted that the path to success has never been easy. Throughout their quest for promotion, Dong Nai faced numerous difficulties, pressures, and challenges. However, through dedication, commitment, and a strong desire to win, the entire team overcame all obstacles to achieve a well-deserved outcome.
The First Division title this season holds special significance for Cong Phuong. Since making his professional debut with HAGL in 2015, he has played for many clubs at home and abroad, and has achieved considerable success with various Vietnamese national teams. Yet, a professional club-level trophy had always been missing from the collection of the striker born in 1995.
The championship is even more memorable because it came after a heartbreaking failure last season. In the promotion play-off match, Cong Phuong missed a penalty, causing Dong Nai to lose to Da Nang and miss out on promotion. A year after that setback, he and his teammates made a strong comeback to complete their unfinished goal.
The turning point came in the penultimate round when Dong Nai defeated Long An 3-0 at home to clinch the title one match early. Alex Sandro opened the scoring from the penalty spot, followed by goals from Luong Xuan Truong and Cong Phuong, securing a crucial victory that brought the Southeast region team back to V.League after an 11-year wait. This was a fitting reward for the team's relentless efforts throughout the season.
For Cong Phuong personally, the past season also involved many challenges as he repeatedly dealt with injuries and had to sit out several matches. Nevertheless, the 31-year-old striker maintained a positive mindset to overcome difficulties. Closing his remarks, Cong Phuong thanked the Dong Nai fans for their unwavering support and expressed his determination to take on new challenges in V.League next season.
