Cambodian fans reacted strongly to the win over the Philippines, challenging Vietnam U19 with one thing

Beating U19 Philippines 3-0 did more than just keep Cambodia U19's progression hopes alive; it also boosted the morale of their supporters, who now feel confident competing with top regional sides like Vietnam.

U19 Cambodia just caused a major upset at the 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship by defeating U19 Philippines 3-0 in their opening Group C match. This result not only eliminated the Philippines but also opened the door for Cambodia to compete for a semifinal spot.

Since Group C has only three teams, this was Cambodia U19's first match. Facing an opponent that had just suffered a 0-10 thrashing by U19 Australia, coach Koji Gyotoku's players started with great energy and opened the scoring in the 5th minute. Less than ten minutes later, they doubled the lead and finished the first half with a 3-0 advantage.

In the second half, U19 Cambodia deliberately slowed the pace to save energy for the decisive match against U19 Australia. Although they didn't add any more goals, the 3-0 win was enough to keep their dream of escaping the group stage alive.

Immediately after the match, the Cambodian and Southeast Asian fan community left many optimistic comments on regional football forums. Quite a few opinions suggested that the young Temple Kingdom team could completely surprise Australia.

"We've waited a long time to see a U19 Cambodia play with such confidence. Beat Australia and reach the semifinals!", a Cambodian supporter shared.

Another fan showed strong determination: "Don't underestimate Cambodia anymore. We've improved a lot and are capable of competing with any team in Southeast Asia."

Many comments also mentioned U19 Vietnam and U19 Indonesia, two teams that are producing the most exciting battle in Group A. "Vietnam and Indonesia are very strong, but Cambodia also wants to join the championship race. We're ready to compete fairly."

Not a few fans even dreamed of facing coach Yutaka Ikeuchi's squad in the knockout stage. One comment that received widespread agreement stated: "Who knows, this year's final might be Cambodia vs. Vietnam. Southeast Asia has many quality young teams."

At present, U19 Australia leads Group C and only needs a draw in the final match to advance. Meanwhile, U19 Cambodia must win if they want to decide their own fate for the group lead.
