Midfielder Ederson has just received great news ahead of his move to MU, as he has been called up to the Brazilian national team squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Previously, Ederson was expected to have a summer off to prepare for his new journey at Old Trafford after completing his transfer from Atalanta. However, the 26-year-old's plans changed when he was called up by coach Carlo Ancelotti to replace defender Wesley, who recently suffered an injury.

Wesley (number 2) suffered an injury
According to an announcement from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Wesley had a problem with his left adductor muscle during a friendly match against Egypt on June 6, which Brazil won 2-1. An MRI scan confirmed that the player sustained muscle damage and cannot continue to accompany Selecao at the 2026 World Cup.
The CBF expressed regret over Wesley's situation and affirmed that the defender remains an important part of the team as they aim for their sixth world championship in history.
This supplementary call-up presents a major opportunity for Ederson, who has just had an impressive season with Atalanta. The Brazilian midfielder will have the chance to impress Ancelotti at the biggest football festival on the planet before moving to Manchester United.

According to sources from England, the deal between Manchester United and Atalanta was finalized last week. Old Trafford will pay an initial transfer fee of £34 million, plus around £5 million in add-ons, bringing the total value of the deal to £39 million.
Ederson is expected to sign a four-year contract with Manchester United and will officially join the club from July.
After a disappointing season, the Red Devils' management is undergoing a major squad overhaul. Head coach Michael Carrick is said to want at least two new midfielders, a striker, and competition options at full-back and goalkeeper positions.
At the 2026 World Cup, Brazil are in Group C and will face Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland respectively in the group stage. This will be an opportunity for Ederson to prove his ability before starting a new chapter in his career at Manchester United.
