Speaking at the ceremony, President Mohammad Prapanca stated that the search for a new coach had begun quite early. Persija’s leadership started discussing the team’s future during the latter part of the previous season and determined that a capable manager was needed to help the club pursue greater goals in the 2026/27 season.

In an introductory video aired at the event, Shin Tae-yong appeared in a sharp suit, marking the start of his new journey with the Indonesian capital club. His arrival is expected to bring fresh energy to Persija, one of Indonesia’s most traditional clubs with a massive fan base.

This will also be Shin Tae-yong’s first time coaching a club in Indonesia. Previously, he left a significant mark while leading the Indonesian national team from 2020 until early 2025. Under the South Korean manager, Indonesian football made notable progress at both the senior and youth team levels, before he was dismissed by PSSI and replaced by Patrick Kluivert in January 2025.

Since leaving the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong returned to South Korea, engaging in various football activities and taking on the role of Vice President of the Korea Football Association. Nevertheless, he has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of retiring and is ready to return to coaching if he receives a suitable project. His comeback with Persija Jakarta opens a new chapter in the 55-year-old strategist’s career, while also drawing special attention from Indonesian fans, who have always held great affection and respect for him.
