As Japan narrowly defeated Canada 3-2, the fourth round of the Volleyball Nations League concluded, with the latest standings showing China's women's team in sixth place.

As of June 8th Beijing time, all four matches in the opening week of the Women's Volleyball Nations League have been completed, with joy and sorrow for different sides. The latest standings have been refreshed. Brazil and Japan are the only teams with perfect records, leading the field. Meanwhile, Italy, Czech Republic, USA, China, and Poland each have three wins and one loss, occupying positions three to seven. Thailand and the Dominican Republic have faced dismal results, suffering four straight defeats and ranking last.

Brazil, a traditional powerhouse, has consistently delivered stable performances. They finished as runners-up in last year's VNL, losing to a strong Italian team in the final. This edition, Brazil has shown steady form, winning all three of their opening matches and then defeating defending champion Italy 3-2 in the fourth round, securing an impressive four-match winning streak with high quality. Japan has also been remarkably consistent. As Asia's top team, they encountered little trouble in the first three rounds, but faced a scare in the fourth, being pushed to a decisive set by Canada after leading 2-0 before narrowly prevailing, earning a hard-fought fourth consecutive victory.

China's women's volleyball team, composed largely of young players, has undergone significant roster changes. However, they started low and rose higher. In the first round, they unexpectedly lost 0-3 to the Czech Republic, disappointing fans. In the second round, they struggled even against Thailand, a weak opponent, barely winning 3-2 after a five-set battle. But in the third round, against Serbia, they bounced back strongly, showcasing their strengths with a dominant 3-0 sweep that changed outsiders' perceptions of this young squad. In the fourth round, they defeated world No. 3 Poland 3-1, securing a third straight victory and climbing to sixth place. Currently, this youthful team shows great potential. Apart from some weakness in the outside hitter position, other areas are promising. Through accumulated experience and matches, their strength will significantly improve.

In the latest standings, based on the first week's four matches, the stronger teams have generally performed steadily. Thailand's four consecutive losses are unsurprising, given their drastic decline in strength. In contrast, the Dominican Republic's performance is somewhat unexpected, as they used to be quite formidable.
