On the evening of June 7, the U19 Vietnam team suffered a disappointing 1-2 loss to hosts U19 Indonesia in the final match of Group A of the 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship. A penalty conceded in stoppage time cost Coach Yutaka Ikeuchi’s squad the chance to top the group, leaving them to wait for results from other groups to determine whether they will reach the semifinals.

This regretful defeat saw U19 Vietnam finish second in Group A. While U19 Indonesia secured a semifinal spot as group winners, Coach Yutaka Ikeuchi’s team must now await the outcomes of the final matches in Groups B and C to learn their chances of progressing.

Although the result was not what they hoped for, the match against hosts Indonesia provided valuable professional lessons for U19 Vietnam. Playing in a fervent atmosphere with tens of thousands of home fans, facing immense pressure both on the pitch and in the stands, and enduring the tension of a decisive game, the young players gained precious experience to build their international competition composure. It also served as an excellent opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate and refine the squad, aiming for the more important goal of the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.
