Vietnam receives extremely good news ahead of the draw for the men's football event at ASIAD 20

Vietnam's national team is seeded in the top pot for ASIAD 20 men's football, giving them an edge before the draw.

The Vietnamese team has just received notable news ahead of the draw for the men's football event at ASIAD 20. as regional media simultaneously reported that Vietnam's representative is placed in Pot 1. According to the specialized site ASEAN Football, Pot 1 for the men's football at ASIAD 20 consists of four teams: Japan, South Korea, China, and Vietnam. These are all teams that reached the semifinals of the 2026 U23 Asian Cup, a tournament believed to be the basis for the organizers' seeding. The group draw will take place on July 23, while the official seeding list has not yet been announced by the ASIAD organizers.

If placed in the top seed group, the Vietnamese team will avoid three very strong opponents: Japan, South Korea, and host China from the group stage. This will open up the opportunity to have an easier group, thereby creating favorable conditions to achieve the goal of advancing past the group stage. However, the risk of landing in a difficult group still exists, as the remaining pots still have many formidable opponents such as Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Iran, or Qatar.

This is a plan that VFF had built earlier with the aim of providing international exposure for young players, preparing a reserve force for the Vietnam U23 and national team in the coming years. Although the squad is younger than most opponents, the team is still expected to accumulate valuable experience at the continent's largest sporting event.
